DESCRIPTION:The Richmond Folk Festival\nOctober 9-11\, 2026\nThe Richmond Folk Festival will return October 9-11\, 2026. Over 22 years\, the festival has become one of Virginia’s largest\, drawing fans each year to downtown Richmond’s riverfront to celebrate the roots\, richness\, and variety of American culture through music\, dance\, traditional crafts\, storytelling\, and food. Featuring six stages and showcasing music and dance from more than 30 artists from around the nation and the world\, the Richmond Folk Festival promises\, as always\, to return with a culturally diverse and impressive program. \nThe free\, three-day event is presented by Venture Richmond Events\, in partnership with the National Council for the Traditional Arts (NCTA)\, the Center for Cultural Vibrancy\, Virginia Humanities\, the Children’s Museum\, and the City of Richmond. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFestival open hours:\n\n\nFriday\, October 9 — 6:30pm – 10:00pm \n\n\nSaturday\, October 10 — 12:00pm – 9:30pm \n\n\nSunday\, October 11 — 12:00pm – 6:00pm \n\n\nADMISSION – FREE!\nThe Richmond Folk Festival is a FREE event – you can enjoy the performances\, the Virginia Folk Life Area & Stage\, and the Family Area at no cost. DESCRIPTION:Raised in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley\, award winning fiddler Mark Campbell has spent decades traveling throughout Virginia and neighboring states\, learning directly from traditional old time musicians and collecting the fiddle tunes\, songs\, and stories that have been passed from generation to generation.  \nFor this special program\, Mark Campbell and Friends will present fiddle tunes\, ballads\, and old-time string band music from Virginia and the surrounding region. The concert will feature treasured family songs\, lively dance tunes\, and even a few musical reflections on the joys (and occasional challenges) of marital bliss! Joining Mark are his daughter\, singer Mauren Campbell\, guitarist George Frick\, and banjoist Bruce Blizard\, bringing together a warm and wonderful celebration of one of America’s richest musical traditions.

DESCRIPTION:For 52 Years…\nOn the fourth Saturday of October\, the Blue Ridge Folklife Festival has presented musicians\, moonshiners\, craftspeople\, cooks\, motorheads\, mule jumpers\, horse pullers\, coon dog racers\, antique tractor buffs\, and old-time gamers for a celebration of the rich heritage and traditions of the region. \nOur festival participants are the real thing\, sharing folk traditions that have been a part of their families and/or communities for years. The Blue Ridge Folklife Festival is the largest regional event of its kind in Virginia\, and there’s nothing like it in the Commonwealth. We feature performers\, artisans\, foods\, and activities not found at typical craft shows\, fairs\, and festivals. \nThe Blue Ridge Institute & Museum of Ferrum College\, the official State Center for Blue Ridge Folklore\, produces the festival. The Blue Ridge Folklife Festival was awarded first place in Blue Ridge Country‘s Top Ten Fall Festivals Readers Poll for 2022\, as well as a top three finalist of Virginia Living’s Best of Virginia: Southwest Virginia Festival awards. \nCovering much of the Ferrum College campus and the Blue Ridge Institute & Museum’s living history farm museum\, the Blue Ridge Folklife Festival has something for everyone.
